Whilest being amongst friends last weekend, we discussed the shapes of my lustr.'s. We thought a model that would drip down from the ceiling would be very cool! This sounded really nice to me, so I designed one. I wanted it to flow down to the width of the cable, therefore I had to think of something to reduce the minimal diameter of my crowns, which can not go under 50mm otherwise the lamellae are too tight next to each other. I came up with a 3D printed solution to fulfill this form. I also wanted it to contrast with the wood with a matte black finish. Have a look at the teaser!
Because I wasn't satisfied with the first version of the Endove, I decided to redesign. The middle plate was removed so the full silhouette comes out more! Next to the the horizontal base model, I also designed a more vertical silhouette in the same style. So you can say they're family by form!
Elri.~ a bottle of light.
Meet Elbö's brother: Elri! Same styling, different form to fit in more vertical interiors.
With Elri, we tried a new type of wood. Elri's lasered in a reddish African hardwood called Okoumé. This wood has a more premium look than the standard birch multiplex with a satin reflection. Okoumé has a darker burnt edge and tends to fit well with copper!
Endove.~ a graceful bowl of light. With this model, I tried to combine an inner and outer contour in one and the same pedant lamp. The form of the lamella reminded me of a dove: graceful and dynamic.Because of the width of the lamellae, there are fewer compared to previous models. This prevents the pendant of becoming too dark. Some remarks: fittings to instal the socket are on point. Although the middle crown creates a dark upper part which isn't favorable to reveal the full contour.Wood fittings seem to be a hard part because thicknesses of the board vary. Sometimes the fitting is perfect, sometimes the fitting is too tight to handle in an easy way. Therefore I'm thinking to loose the fitting...
Elbö.~ a subtle straight (i)conic design. To have some variety in the product range, I decided to design something straight to fit modern interiors. With golden ratio proportion, the Elbö is a simple but stylish pendant lamp. With fewer lamellae, the Elbö provides more clarity than the Edison. This was a remark with the previous model. Also the fitting is optimized. Next step will be the optimization of the installation of the product. The ornament itself is pretty simple to assemble, but there are still some issues to connect the socket and cable. Therefore I have to design a system that's user friendly to install in order to deliver a proper product experience! A special thanks to Lasercut.be for the collaboration....
