#12 Bigger and bolder

After almost 3 weeks of sales, there is a growing demand for larger models. This weekend, I started upscaling the models. All lustr.'s are designed to fit flatpack boxes of 40 by 30 cm (M-size), which are standardized. This is also 1/6th of a standard wood panel of 120 by 60 cm we use at lasercut.be. To start off with the upscaling, this had to be considered in order to produce efficiently! For the L-size, a 60 by 40 cm flatpack box is choosen; it's also 1/3rd of a standard wood panel.  Because the Edison. model is the largest to fit the 40 by 30 box, this is the reference for upscaling. A few hours later, I became an L-sized Edison. that grew...

#11 Pine tree Edi

At lasercut.be they've got multiple materials to lasercut! For now, I looked for a light (poplar) and a darker (okoumé) option. Both are quite homogeneous (few amount of veins). Whilest looking to the stock, I saw a more flame-nerved wooden material that I liked a lot. Pine tree has a nice yellow flaming structure and fits nice in modern interiors, contrasting to black. Surprisingly I fitted like a glove, using the okoumé production files. Next to that pine wood is advantageous to lasercut: it burns really clean (almost...

#10 Ceiling caps

Now the lamps are optimized and finished, I'm sourcing the right ceiling caps to match the pendant lamps. After trying different materials and forms from different suppliers, I choose to work with CableCup's silicone ceiling caps. They have many advantages! For the flatpack design, silicone is ideal because of the flexibility of the material. Next to that, the integrated functionality reduces the steps of installing the pendant to the ceiling. I'm glad to collaborate with CableCup to push forward smart design! The combination of matte silicone is also adorable! The CableCup classic d158mm will be provided with the sphere shaped Edison and Endove models. More info: www.cablecup.com

#9 Packaging

During the month January and February, I've been busy optimizing the lamps to standardized packaging sizes. After researching different box suppliers, all the lamps had to be resized to fit the box. The lamp designs were also tweaked to have as less as possible waste. Lustr.design pendant lamps (M-sized) will be able in flatpack boxes (32x44x5cm) and preassembled in cardboard tubes (d40x50cm).
